Assistant Principal's Message

Hola familia Pioneer, mi nombre es María Murillo y es un honor para mí servir como su nueva subdirectora. Les cuento un poco sobre mí: crecí en Venezuela, donde terminé la secundaria y luego trabajé en un Centro de Investigación de una compañía petrolera. Decidí cursar un doctorado en la Universidad de Colorado, Boulder, y he utilizado mis habilidades matemáticas para convertirme en maestra. He formado parte del equipo de BVSD por más de 17 años y como educadora por más de 22. Fui maestra de matemáticas en la escuela secundaria Arapahoe Ridge y luego Decana de Estudiantes en las escuelas secundarias New Vista y Broomfield. También me desempeñé como maestra líder de uno de nuestros programas de aprendizaje de verano durante aproximadamente 10 años. Ahora estoy muy emocionada y privilegiada por el honor de servir en la Escuela Primaria Pioneer. Espero poder ayudar y apoyar a cada miembro de la comunidad Pioneer: estudiantes, personal, familias y miembros de la comunidad. Soy una firme defensora del multilingüismo, el multiculturalismo, la diversidad en todos los aspectos y la equidad. Creo que todas estas son fortalezas presentes en la familia Pioneer.

Disfruto haciendo caminatas cortas por la zona de Boulder durante todo el año. Disfruto estar al aire libre de cualquier forma, y uno de mis lugares favoritos es la playa, así que viajo a menudo para disfrutar del mar. He tenido la suerte de viajar extensamente por Estados Unidos y el extranjero, visitando lugares en seis continentes diferentes. También tuve la gran fortuna de recibir una Beca Fulbright Distinguida en Investigación Docente, que me permitió pasar un semestre en Grecia aprendiendo sobre su sistema educativo. Mi prioridad principal son mis dos hijos, a quienes quiero ver desarrollarse como ciudadanos sanos, felices y productivos. También me preocupa profundamente ayudar a todos mis estudiantes y sus familias a lograr esos mismos objetivos, y centro mis esfuerzos en asegurar que todos tengan un acceso equitativo a las oportunidades.

Note from the new Assistant Principal at Escuela Bilingüe Pioneer:

Hello Pioneer family, my name is Maria Murillo, and I am honored to serve as your new Assistant Principal. A little about me, I grew up in Venezuela, where I finished High school and later went on to work for an oil company research center. I decided to pursue a PhD from the University of Colorado - Boulder, and have utilized my Math skills to become a teacher. I have been part of the BVSD team for over 17 years, and an educator for 22+ years. I was a Math teacher at Arapahoe Ridge High School, then a Dean of students at New Vista and Broomfield High School. I have also served as the Teacher Leader of one of our Summer Learning programs for about 10 years. I am now very excited and privileged by the honor of serving Pioneer Elementary. I am looking forward to helping and supporting every member of the Pioneer community, students, staff, families, and community members. I am a strong believer and supporter of multilingualism, multiculturalism, diversity in every aspect, and equity. All of which I believe are strengths present in the Pioneer family.

I enjoy doing short hikes around the Boulder area all year-round. I enjoy being outdoors in any fashion, and one of my favorite places is the beach, so I travel often to enjoy the ocean. I have been lucky enough to have traveled extensively in the US and abroad, visiting places on six different continents. I was also very fortunate to have received a Fulbright Distinguished Award in Teaching Research, which allowed me to spend a semester in Greece learning about their educational system. My priority is my own two children, whom I want to see develop into healthy, happy, and productive citizens. I also care deeply about helping all my students and their families in achieving those same goals, and I focus my efforts on making sure there is equitable access to opportunities for all.
